MIAMI BEACH PLANS FOR NEW YEARS CELEBRATIONS

-- Free Spectacular Fireworks Display between 5th and 17th Streets on the Beach --

Miami Beach – When the clock strikes 12:00 a.m. (EST) on the year 2000, all eyes will be on Miami Beach. As host City of some of the most exciting New Year’s Eve, over one billion television viewers worldwide will be watching Miami Beach live over PBS, ABC, NBC, and over 70 international networks. As a climax to the night, the City’s skies will light up between 5th and 17th streets with the largest fireworks display ever in the history of the City.

With all this happening, the City’s goal is to successfully accommodate what is certainly to be a capacity crowd, extensive planning efforts have been underway for the upcoming historic New Year. The City Administration is working with the Miami Beach Transportation Management Association and Miami-Dade Transit to develop convenient, frequent and reliable access to the City via a county-wide park-and- ride service, as well as free shuttles within the City. All efforts will be made to provide continuous flow of vehicles on routes leading in and out of, and within the City, and maintain public and emergency personnel access to and from the City.

The Miami Beach plan will facilitate access and flow of traffic and is working with other agencies for assistance.
