Labor Relation Divisions

Labor Relations is committed to improving communication between representatives of labor and management, assisting employees and management with conflict resolution, and providing employees and management with the opportunities to learn, explore and implement innovative and cooperative joint approaches to organizational effectiveness. Besides working with Unions and their employees, Labor Relations works with representatives and attorneys representing the Unions to amicably resolve issues.

Labor Relations also works closely with the City Attorney’s Office, outside labor counsel and the Office of the Manager when making decisions regarding collective bargaining, grievances and arbitrations. Labor Relations regularly makes presentations to the Budget Advisory Committee and at Executive Sessions to Commission during the contract negotiation process.  Finally, to acquire additional knowledge of current practices, tendencies and occurrences, Labor Relations collaborates closely with surrounding municipalities on labor management issues and strategies in South Florida.

With the comprehensive learning philosophy, comprised of high-quality training techniques and a flexible approach, the Labor Relations achieves sustainable and measurable results which contribute to the City’s KIO of Attracting and Maintaining a Quality Workforce. Training is designed to support all levels of the organization and the ongoing training programs contribute to the strategic business initiatives, union and employee needs, current trends and other areas of development.

Labor Relations understands that knowledge, communication and teamwork is the key to success, contributes to individual development and advancement, which in turn enhances the organization’s performance and leads to overall effectiveness and efficiency resulting in overall citizen approval.
