International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program implementation in Miami Beach public schools is underway.  As these programs continue to expand, students and their parents(s)/ guardian(s) can expect a curriculum that will encourage international awareness with emphasis on the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to succeed.

WHY THE IB 

Students who enroll in a public elementary or middle school in Miami Beach participate in the IB program. The IB program is a unique educational experience that is aimed to develop intellectual individuals who will thrive in the global community. There are numerous advantages to students who participate in this program such as:

  •  Becoming more cognizant about other cultures through the acquisition of a second language
  •  An educational pathway that will direct them towards the top ranking universities around the globe
  •  Becoming an innovative thinkers and a self-advocate

In addition to the advantages listed above, IB students often outperform other students in several areas. This is due to the program’s ability to develop student’s “academic, social and emotional” skills in a global context.

MIAMI BEACH SENIOR HIGH IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM 

The IB Diploma Program, offered at Miami Beach Senior High School, cultivates critical thinking and encourages a global attitude. Furthermore, the program entails a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for college level course work. Student who attain this diploma are almost certain to be accepted to the most selective universities in the United States and abroad. In addition, an IB Diploma, in the state of Florida, qualifies students for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships at Florida public universities. Depending on the school, students may also be awarded up to one year of university credits.
