SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION
A sustainable transportation system supports access needs safely and in a manner consistent with human and ecosystem health. In addition, a sustainable transportation system promotes equity within and between generations; is affordable, operates efficiently, offers choice of transport mode, and supports a vibrant economy.
The City of Miami Beach aims to create a multi-modal transportation system that minimizes, and where possible eliminates pollution and motor vehicle congestion while ensuring safe mobility and access to all residents and visitors. In addition, the City’s Sustainability Committee is looking at different community incentives for private use of alternative transportation/fuels, such as electric car plug-in stations in selected municipal parking garages and shared car and bike programs. Examples of City efforts also include, expanding the Atlantic Green Way Network, increasing pedestrian safety, promoting access to alternative transportation and fuels, and increasing the quality and availability of transit service Citywide.
