Beach Seeks Nominations for Hispanic Heritage Month Award:
The Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee seeks nominations
for the 2008 Hispanic Heritage Month Awards. The Committee
will select a winner in one of each of the following categories:
educator, businessperson/employee, public safety hero &/or
provider, social services provider, artist, youth (community

Annual Exhibit of National Arts Program® Opens at
Miami Beach City Hall Gallery -- Winners to be Announced During
Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, July 30 --
Miami Beach
- Over 100 works of art created by City of Miami Beach employees
and their families are currently on display in the First Annual
Exhibit of the National Arts Program® in the City Hall
Fourth Floor Gallery through September 19, 2008. The juried
exhibit is judged by professional artists and arts professionals,
and winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on
Wednesday, July 30, at 5:00 p.m.

Pits Pave the Way -- Newly Patented System Allows for
Irrigation and Healthy Growth -- Miami Beach, FL -- It
was only her second day on the job when she was already digging
for answers. Miami Beach Landscape Projects Coordinator Rhonda
Gracie is leading a citywide project that is addressing the
many problems previously experienced with the city's tree
pits. Pits are generally a six'-by-six' area that contains
trees and palms, irrigation and sometimes lighting. They surround
the tree and are supposed to allow for irrigation and growth.

95 Express Limits Access to and from Julia Tuttle Causeway
Miami Beach, FL
-- Officials from the City of Miami Beach traveled to Washington
D.C. this week to work with U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen
and other members of the South Florida delegation to talk
to transportation officials about the 95 Express Project.
They were successful in convincing transportation officials
to allow City of Miami Beach and State of Florida traffic
engineers to study the proposed project. Engineers will consider
options on how to accommodate traffic coming and going to
Miami Beach using the Julia Tuttle Causeway into and out of
the new High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes. More... |

Pay Equity Day
Miami Beach, FL – In recognition of National Equal
Pay Day, join the members of the Miami Beach Commission for
Women and other participants for a “Women in the Red” march
on Lincoln Road at Euclid Circle on Tuesday, April 22, beginning
at 12:00 p.m. Wear red and come out and support them. The
participants will wear red to call attention to the fact that
women are “in the red” when it comes to equal pay (23 percent
less, on average). The women will converge on Lincoln Road
at Euclid Avenue and march toward Alton Road and back to Euclid
