The Beach Is Bubbly Over the Mermaid -- Mayor David Dermer and Commissioner Richard Steinberg present a proclamation from the City of Miami Beach to the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation. Miami Beach Art in Public Places Committee honors the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation -- On Monday, December 10, 2001 the Miami Beach Art in Public Places and SMG honored the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation with a re-dedication of Roy Lichtenstein's Mermaid, located on the south lawn outside of the Jackie Gleason Theater.

The Greens at Bayshore Are Turning Brown -- As Part of the Miami Beach Bayshore Golf Course Renovations -- Bayshore Golf Course and Clubhouse, located on Alton Road between Michigan and Chase avenues, closed on Monday, October 1, 2001 to begin a series of major renovations. Renovations to the greens commence on Monday, December 3.

City Regrets Postponement of Art Basel Miami Beach  – Regretfully, the City of Miami Beach has been notified by Art Basel that the premiere of Art Basel Miami Beach has been re-scheduled to December 5 - 8, 2002.

Miami Beach Property Owners Entitled To Increased Flood Insurance Discounts-- As a Result of City's CRS Rating -- The City of Miami Beach's rating in the Community Rating System (CRS) of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has been upgraded from a Class 8 to a Class 7 and approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

County’s Annual Chlorination Process of Water Begins -- Public Advisory -- Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department will be temporarily changing its water chlorinating method at each of its regional water treatment facilities beginning today, Friday, September 21, 2001.

Bayshore Golf Course Closes For Renovations - Bayshore Golf Course and Clubhouse, located on Alton Road between Michigan and Chase avenues, will close on Monday, October 1, 2001 to begin a series of major renovations. 

Miami Beach Holds Candlelight Vigil -- Sunday, September 23, 6:30 p.m.  – In response to last week’s terrible events, the City of Miami Beach is having a community candlelight vigil to show solidarity and support for the nation, the victims and their families. The vigil will take place on Sunday, September 23, 6:30 p.m. at the 46th Street Beach.

MIAMI BEACH IMPLEMENTS PLAN FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND -The City of Miami Beach has been working to assure that planning and resources are appropriately allocated during Labor Day Weekend beginning on Friday, August 31 and concluding on Monday, September 3, 2001.

Miami Beach Hosts the National Lifeguard Championships   Miami Beach will be hosting the Foster’s 2001 National Lifeguard Championships between Thursday, August 9 and Saturday, August 11, 2001, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This exciting world-class event will be held on the beach between 8th and 10th streets, just east of Ocean Drive in the Art Deco District.  

MBPD’s Enforcement of Alcoholic Beverages Laws and Ordinances - Recently, a letter was issued by Chief Richard Barreto to all Miami Beach businesses licensed as alcoholic beverage establishments reminding them of the current City and County Ordinances pertaining to alcoholic beverages.

City Cracks Down on Illegal Home Rentals – In the City’s continuing efforts to address quality of life issues, the Department of Code Compliance continues to enforce City codes that affect its residents. One problem residents living in a single-family district are faced with is homes that are being rented on a short-term basis to large groups, usually for parties.

City Seeks Neighborhood Input Regarding Potential Development of the City Lots at Washington Ave and 17th Street  – The City of Miami Beach is considering potential development opportunities for the two City surface parking lots on 17th Street between Washington and Pennsylvania avenues.

City Holds Important Community Visioning Workshops for North Beach  – The City of Miami Beach is holding two important community workshops to determine and plan the future of North Beach’s 71st Street commercial district.Parking Debit Cards - The Easiest Way to Park & Ride - Smartcards can be used at all Miami Beach municipal parking meters and on the Electrowave.

MandatoryWater Restrictions Are Still in Effect - Violators will be Fined!   – City of Miami Beach urges residents and businesses to conserve water. Phase Two of mandatory water restrictions are still in effect until further notice.

South Beach Service Team Responds to Commercial Districts' Needs   – In response to concerns by the South Beach business community about the overall community appearance and the effectiveness of City maintenance programs within the area, the City has implemented a pilot program, South Beach Service Team (SBST), that will revamp its delivery of services in the South Beach commercial area.

45 DAY TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT INITIATIVE - The Miami Beach Police Department is announcing a 45 day traffic enforcement initiative which will kick off on Monday, May 14, 2001. 

City Begins Major Park Improvements, More Fun to Come - Construction begins this month on two major Miami Beach parks and recreation facilities -- Flamingo Park (11th Street and Jefferson Avenue) and the Scott Rakow Youth Center (2700 Sheridan Avenue).

Loews Miami Beach Hotel Exceeds Profit Projections  – Loews Hotel Miami Beach has already far exceeded the profit projection which indicated that the hotel would not reach profitability within its first years of operation.

New Film & Print Guidelines for Miami Beach Cover Residential Production - The City of Miami Beach passed new guidelines for the film and photography industry that requires permitting provisions for residential areas. The guidelines are effective Saturday, April 28, 2001.

Miami Beach Commission on the Status of Women Pave Road to Empowerment  – In celebration of Pay Equity Day, the City of Miami Beach Commission on the Status of Women will hold "Road to Empowerment," an informative panel discussion to help women achieve useful skills in promoting their careers.

Miami Beach Appoints New Parking Director  – Miami Beach City Manager Jorge M. Gonzalez appointed Saul Frances director of the City of Miami Beach’s parking department.

MBPD will be Issuing Water Restriction Violation Citations  - Starting on Monday, March 12, 2001, the Miami Beach Police Department will cease issuing warnings to those individuals in violation of the current water restrictions, and will issue citations.

Miami International Boat Show Sets Anchor in Miami Beach -- Park & Ride Transportation Available  -- Celebrating its 60th anniversary, this year's show will feature the latest powerboats, engines, electronics, and accessories from 2,300 exhibitors on more than 2.5 million square feet of exhibition space. The Miami International Boat and Sailboat Show is the world's largest consumer marine exhibition. The show will be open from February 15 through 20, 2001. 

Newly Renovated Meridian Bridge Gets New Name - On Tuesday, January 30, the City will dedicate the newly renovated Meridian Avenue Bridge as the "Holocaust Memorial Bridge." The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Meridian Avenue and Dade Boulevard.
