Police Wall of Honor - On Tuesday, March 26, the Miami Beach Police Department added 27 names to the Miami Beach Police "Wall of Honor." This wall honors retired or deceased police officers who have served with loyalty and bravery since the City was founded in 1915.

Miami Beach Mayor is on the Move -- Neighborhood Meetings Address Concerns -- Miami Beach Mayor David Dermer joins the Neighborhood Services team to address quality of life issues at neighborhood meetings. Crime in Miami Beach Drops for Fifth Consecutive Year – On Wednesday, February 6, 2002, the City of Miami Beach announced that overall reported crime dropped 9.5 percent in 2001 from 2000, which signifies the second largest drop in crime in the last five years with a total reduction of 33.4 percent since 1996.

Miami International Boat Show Sets Anchor in Miami Beach -- Park & Ride Transportation Available – Celebrating its 61st anniversary, this year's show will feature the latest powerboats, engines, electronics, and accessories from more than 2,300 exhibitors on more than 2.5 million square feet of exhibition space. The Miami International Boat and Sailboat Show is the world's largest consumer marine exhibition. The show will be open from February 14 through 19, 2002.

FEMA Awards Grant to Miami Beach Fire Department - The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the United States Fire Administration awarded a $289,722.00 grant from the 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grant will provide Miami Beach Fire Department with additional funds for training and communication equipment.

Miami Beach Art in Public Places stretches its wings with "FLAMINGOS ON THE BEACH" Flocks of flamingos are nesting on Miami Beach this month with the introduction of "Flamingos on the Beach," a Miami Beach Art in Public Places project designed to position bejeweled and dazzling eight-foot tall flamingo sculptures from South Point to North Beach.

Experts Share Planning Tips at First Annual Hurricane Fair -- Hurricane Season Begins June 1 -- On Saturday, June 1, 2002, the City of Miami Beach will hold its first annual Hurricane Fair. The Fair will be held on Lincoln Road between Lenox and Michigan avenues from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Information, instructions and demonstrations will be available on how to prepare for hurricane season. 

Miami Beach Presents Awards to its Community Heroes On Tuesday, April 2, 2002, the City of Miami Beach presents Community Heroes awards to prominent Miami Beach leaders and organizations that have contributed to the community during its annual celebration of Community Development Week. 

Construction Begins on New Youth Center at North Shore Park -- Other Renovations Also Underway –  The Miami Beach ground will break, yet again, for another major park renovation. On Monday, March 18 at 4:30 p.m., heavy machinery will plow into North Shore Park located at 501 72 Street.

Miami Beach Economic Stimulus Incentives Expire January 31  – Businesses that have deferred their payment of Occupational License and Sidewalk Café fees as a result of the City of Miami Beach’s economic stimulus incentives, which were approved after the devastating events of September 11, 2001, will have to pay up by January 31, 2002.

City Enhances Building Inspection Efforts for Residents  – In an effort to provide an enhanced level of inspection service to homeowners, both condominium and single-family, Miami Beach City Manager Jorge M. Gonzalez has directed the Building Department to initiate a Saturday Inspection Service.
