City Honored with Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

Miami Beach, FL -- The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the City of Miami Beach with the GFOA’s “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” for its Adopted Budget for Fiscal Year 2002-2003. This is the first time the City has achieved this distinction.

The award represents a significant achievement by the City. It reflects the commitment of the City Manager, Chief Financial Officer, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) staff and the Administration to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to achieve a proficient rating in each category to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the budget serves as: a policy document; financial plan; operational guide; and a communications device.

Since the inception of the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards program in 1984, approximately 900 entities have received the Award. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving 14,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
