One Year Building Permit Reprieve
Do you know about the Building Reprieve Program?
The reprieve program has been extended for another year by Ordinance No. 2019-4262. This program establishes a procedure to bring structures built without proper permits or built lacking mandatory inspections into compliance with the building code.
Property owners who have open permits or work done without the required permits or inspections can take advantage of this program up until April 30, 2020. They can legalize the work without the issuance of a violation or assessment of double fees and fines. The first step to bring their properties into compliance is to fill out a permit application and check the Reprieve Permit box and all applicable boxes. On March 7, 2018, the Mayor and City Commission recommended the extension of the reprieve period by an additional year. This item was approved unanimously at the May 16, 2018 commission meeting. The City enacted Ordinance No. 2018-4192 which amended the sunset date from April 30, 2018 through April 30, 2019.
