CERT: THE MIAMI BEACH COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

WHEN DISASTER CALLS – HOW WILL YOU RESPOND?

The Department of Emergency Management offers the FEMA-sponsored Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.

Following a large scale emergency, professional responders may not be immediately available as they are tasked with multiple priorities. Through CERT training, individuals and organizations learn life-saving response skills to help each other until professionals arrive.

CERT training is offered as a series of classes that total 24 hours, including a simulated disaster drill. Completion of all modules is necessary to obtain certification. If you are interested in volunteering with the City of Miami Beach in any capacity (following a disaster or not) you are required to complete the CERT course.

Topics include the following:

  • Hazard Identification & Disaster Preparedness
  • Response Team Organization and Communication
  • Fire Safety and Suppression
  • Light Search and Rescue
  • Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • Terrorism Awareness
  • Disaster Psychology and Emotional Impacts
  • Comprehensive Final Drill

If you are interested in the CERT Training and/or have a question, please email your interest to DEM@miamibeachfl.gov with the subject line “CERT interest.”  Include your name and contact information (phone number, home address and email).  This is only an interest submittal. Email does not constitute enrollment for any class or session. You will be contacted to confirm your interest in the program as the training classes approaches.

Next CERT training for Miami Beach residents will begin May 4, 2019.
