MBPD Citizen’s Police Academy
The Miami Beach Police Department is proud to offer a very popular and free program, the Citizen’s Police Academy. If you are interested in learning more about law enforcement this may be the perfect opportunity!
The course is a 12 week program that covers a variety of topics, including:
- Community and Police Relationships
- Defensive Tactics
- Lethal Weapons
- High Speed Chases
- High Risk Stops
- Shoot or Don’t Shoot Scenarios
- Community Oriented Policing
Classes are held on Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Miami Beach Police Department, 1100 Washington Avenue. A light dinner is served at 5:45 p.m. The materials used in the course, training facilities and food are complimentary. The Academy includes hands-on training presented in a low-stress atmosphere. Although graduates are not trained for police duty, they come away with an insider’s view of what it is like to be a police officer in Miami Beach.
Participants are introduced to various aspects of police work, aimed at creating awareness, understanding, and building strong police-community relations.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, have no felony convictions or significant criminal history, and complete a background check.
