Am 10. Juli 1972 wurde im Miami Beach Convention Center der Parteitag der Demokraten er\u00f6ffnet. Vier Tage lang stand die Stadt im Zentrum der amerikanischen Politik, als die Delegierten zusammenkamen, um Senator George McGovern zum Pr\u00e4sidentschaftskandidaten zu nominieren.<\/p>\n<p>Der Parteitag war mehr als nur ein politischer Meilenstein. Er demonstrierte Miami Beachs F\u00e4higkeit, eines der gr\u00f6\u00dften, komplexesten und meistbeachteten Ereignisse des Landes auszurichten. \u00dcber 15.000 Delegierte, Journalisten, Wahlkampfmitarbeiter, Sicherheitspersonal und Besucher str\u00f6mten in die Stadt, f\u00fcllten Hotels, Restaurants und lokale Gesch\u00e4fte und sorgten f\u00fcr weltweite Medienberichterstattung. Nur einen Monat sp\u00e4ter fand in Miami Beach auch der Republikanische Nationalkonvent statt, womit 1972 das letzte Mal war, dass eine Stadt im selben Wahljahr beide gro\u00dfen Parteitage ausrichtete.<\/p>\n<p>Die Vorbereitung der Kongresse erforderte eine umfassende Koordination zwischen der lokalen Regierung, den Strafverfolgungsbeh\u00f6rden, Partnern aus dem Gastgewerbe und Unternehmen und stellte die Organisationsf\u00e4higkeit der Stadt auf internationaler Ebene unter Beweis.
