(Miami Beach, FL) Jul 27, 2021 -

Seeking to encourage sustainability, environmental stewardship and conservation, the City of Miami Beach has made available a total of $110,000 in grants for nonprofit organizations. The application period for Miami Beach Rising Above grants will be open from now until 5 p.m. on Aug. 20.

“Engaging with local organizations provides the opportunity to launch innovative projects and programming,” shared Miami Beach Environment and Sustainability Director Elizabeth Wheaton. “We are excited to see what the new grant cycle will bring forth to help drive community sustainability and protect and enhance our natural environment.”

These funds are made possible through the city’s agreements with Boucher Brothers and franchisee waste haulers. The grants are intended to assist community-based organizations with the capacity and experience to undertake environmentally focused projects and programs.

Previous grant recipients include Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, Debris Free Oceans, North Beach Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, Miami Beach Botanical Garden, Surfrider Foundation, VolunteerCleanup.org, Dream in Green and Miami Waterkeeper. Past proposals have focused on plastics education, dune restoration and the installation of rescued beehives.
