Miami Beach Celebrates Simón Bolívar y Las Americas Day

(Miami Beach, FL) Jul 17, 2022 -

Join the City of Miami Beach for its fourth annual celebration of Simón Bolívar y Las Americas Day on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. Bolivar was born on July 24, 1783 in Caracas, Venezuela. Also known as El Libertador (which translates to “The Liberator”), he played a central role in the South American independence movement against Spanish rule. His efforts set forth the creation of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru. The ceremony will take place at Bolivar’s Miami Beach monument in Collins Park.

“July 24 is celebrated as Simon Bolivar Day throughout Latin America and Miami Beach is no different,” explained Chairman Gabriel Paez of the Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee.

The monument, which is located at 21 Street and Collins Avenue, commemorates Bolívar’s courageous effort. Sunday’s festivities will be followed by an invocation and wreath-laying ceremony from the Office of the Mayor and Commission. Every year, the Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee highlights a country Bolivar helped become independent. This year’s ceremony will honor the country of Peru.

Cafecito will be served.
