Miami Beach Officials to Hold Street Sign Unveiling for Elie Wiesel Way

(Miami Beach, FL) May 5, 2022 -

The City of Miami Beach will hold a street sign unveiling for Elie Wiesel Way at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 along the northwest corner of Pride Park at 1700 Convention Center Dr.

“Elie Wiesel’s life was not only about telling the Jewish story during World War II — it was about bearing witness to man’s inhumanity to man so that we may never repeat it,” shared Miami Beach Commissioner David Richardson. “It is our honor to recognize Mr. Wiesel with this permanent Miami Beach landmark.”

The press is invited to join the Miami Beach Mayor & Commission, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, philanthropist Norman Braman, Holocaust survivor Allan Hall, City Manager Alina Hudak and others as they celebrate Wiesel’s remarkable life.

Wiesel was a Romanian-born Jewish American political activist, professor and author of 57 books, including his memoir “Night,” which was based on his experiences as a prisoner in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps and has since been translated into more than 30 languages. His work earned Wiesel the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1986.
