Operations Major

Major David De La Espriella has served with the Miami Beach Police Department since 1996.  During his career he has been assigned to every Division of the agency and served in a variety of capacities including: Support Services, Technical Services, Internal Affairs, Patrol Operations, and Criminal Investigations. He helped established the South Point Redevelopment Area (RDA) and was the City's first ever Neighborhood Resource Officer (NRO).

Major De La Espriella has also served as the Department's liaison to numerous organizations including the Miami Beach Chaplain Program, North Beach Development Corporation, is a founding member of the Teen Job Corporation, and was selected by the City Manager to represent the Police Department as part of the City's delegation that won the prestigious All American City Award given by the National Civic League.

Major De La Espriella is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations including: The City of Miami Beach's Hispanic Public Safety Officer of the Year Award, the Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) Award for Community Policing, and the Fraternal Order of Police Member of the Year Award. He holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Political Science from Florida International University, a Master's degree in Public Administration from American Public University, and a Graduate Certificate in law enforcement studies from the University of Virginia.

Major De La Espriella is also a graduate of the University of Louisville's Southern Police Institute's Command Development Program, the Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations, the Florida Police Chiefs Association Future Chiefs Seminar, and the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigations 263rd session of the National Academy.

Major De La Espriella is a member of, and actively involved in, the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, the Florida Police Chiefs Association, and the FBI National Academy Alumni Association.

Major De La Espriella currently serves as the Vice President of the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Board.
