Marlen Rivero

Captain Marlen Rivero began her law enforcement career in 2000 and joined the Miami Beach Police Department in 2004.  She has been assigned and served in a variety of capacities and positions of rank including Lieutenant/Shift Commander in the Operations Division, Sergeant in Internal Affairs, Detective in the Homicide Unit, and multiple assignments in the Patrol Division. Captain Rivero has also served as a trainer in every one of her assignments within the Department.

Captain Rivero has received numerous honors and awards during her career including the Miami Beach Police Department's Exceptional Service Award. She is a veteran and recently retired after 21 years of service in the Florida National Guard’s 13^th Army Band. For her honorable service to our country both domestically and abroad, she was awarded the Army Meritorious Service Medal.

Captain Rivero has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and in 2015 she obtained her Masters Degree in Public Administration from Florida International University. Her post graduate education includes specialties in Community Development, Emergency Management and Homeland Security. In addition, she is a recent graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officers Development Course # 78.

Captain Rivero now serves as the South [Area 1] Commander.
