Isso come\u00e7ou a mudar em julho de 1912, quando os irm\u00e3os John Newton Lummus e James Edward Lummus registraram o primeiro loteamento oficial para desenvolver terras na ilha barreira do outro lado da Ba\u00eda de Biscayne.<\/p>\n<p>Na \u00e9poca, a ilha era praticamente inacess\u00edvel.
