Mayor Dan Gelber

Dan Gelber is the 38^th Mayor of Miami Beach. A U.S. Truman Scholar in college and law school, Dan served as a decorated federal prosecutor in South Florida. He was subsequently appointed by former Senator Sam Nunn to direct the U.S. Senate’s prestigious Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations where he led investigations into fraud, waste and abuse in government and counterterrorism.  He returned to South Florida and served a decade in the state legislature – House and Senate – where he was unanimously selected as the Democratic Leader. Dan practices law with the firm Gelber Schachter Greenberg LLP and is listed in Best Lawyers of America and is the only Florida lawyer to achieve the “Eminent Practitioner” ranking in his practice area in Chambers USA.

Dan is married to career Federal Prosecutor Joan Silverstein, and they have three adult children and two nearly-trained dogs. Dan is active in the Big Brothers program having been matched to the same little brother for decades. Dan’s father, Seymour, was the 33^rd mayor of our City; his mother, Edith, a beloved local schoolteacher.
