A cidade de Miami Beach nomeia Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Modulations – Sequence XXIX, como vencedora do Programa de Aquisição de Legado de 2025.

Miami Beach, Flórida – Today, the City of Miami Beach is pleased to announce that Modulações - Sequência XXIX, by Ximena Garrido-Lecca, represented by Livia Benavides Gallery, has been selected by Miami Beach residents and members of the public as this year’s acquisition for the Legacy Purchase Program.

An annual initiative, the city’s Art in Public Places Committee selected artworks by Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Patrick Dean-Hubbell, and Ken Tisa from a pool of applications from the emerging artists of the Art Basel Miami Beach Positions, Nova, as well as newcomers and recent entrants to the Galleries sector presenting early-career artists. The public then voted among the finalists, selecting Ximena Garrido-Lecca’s Modulações - Sequência XXIX for accession into the city’s public art collection.

“This year’s Legacy Purchase not only strengthens our city’s public art landscape, but also reinforces Miami Beach’s standing as a global destination for creative innovation,” said Prefeito de Miami Beach, Steven Meiner. “The enthusiastic community involvement throughout this process shows just how deeply our residents value art’s ability to inspire, to reflect our stories, and to shape the cultural identity we share.”

Em sua Modulações series, Ximena Garrido-Lecca continues to explore the role of copper in Peru’s economy, where this natural resource is exported as a raw material for its use in tech industries. These new works integrate a series of abstract symbols inspired by modernist corporate logos used by diverse industries and corporate entities. By using these geometric symbols in a traditional woven form, she questions the relation between these modern images, tied to the engines of modernization and the global economy, and their links to pre-Columbian abstraction. The work also highlights the demand for accelerated growth and modernization in the context of a growing economy, under unregulated natural resource extraction, which often does not generate investment in local infrastructure and social welfare, but instead favors corporate gain.

“It is a privilege for our gallery to see Ximena’s work added to the Legacy Purchase Program as part of the City of Miami Beach’s Art in Public Places Collection, especially alongside the works of other internationally recognized artists,” said Livia Benavides.

Ximena Garrido-Lecca (b. Lima, 1980) lives and works between Mexico City and Lima. Recent solo exhibitions include Reverse Engineering at CAN Centre d’art Neuchâtel, Switzerland (2023), and Inflorescence at Portikus, Frankfurt (2022). Her works have also been featured in major international exhibitions such as the 2025 Sharjah Biennial; the 5th Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India, and the 34th Bienal de São Paulo, and are included in public collections such as the Guggenheim, Tate Modern, London; Boros Collection, Berlin, Germany; Kadist Foundation, Paris/ San Francisco; The Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart; the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA), Argentina; and Museo de Arte de Lima, among others.

Este programa busca expandir estrategicamente a atual coleção de arte pública da cidade, adquirindo obras que reflitam nossa comunidade, estejam alinhadas com a direção curatorial da coleção existente, demonstrem excelência artística e relevância em termos de práticas artísticas contemporâneas, e representem um investimento valioso para a Coleção de Arte em Espaços Públicos. Aquisições anteriores incluem obras de Juana Valdés, Sanford Biggers, Amoako Boafo, Ebony G. Patterson e Farah Al Qasimi.

Sobre o Programa de Arte em Locais Públicos da Cidade de Miami Beach

O Comitê de Arte em Locais Públicos é um conselho municipal composto por sete membros, responsável pela encomenda e compra de obras de arte de artistas contemporâneos em todas as mídias. O programa aloca fundos que totalizam 2% em custos fixos para projetos municipais e projetos conjuntos públicos/privados. Os recursos de projetos de construção podem ser agregados ao Fundo de Arte em Locais Públicos e alocados para obras de arte em locais públicos e para a manutenção do acervo.
