Miami Beach, Floride – Rejoignez la ville de Miami Beach sur Thursday, Nov. 5 à 16h as officials take the wraps off “Miami Beach Ocean Heroes: From Ocean Rescue to Coastal Guardians,” a free outdoor exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of Miami Beach Ocean Rescue and recognizing the environmental organizations and volunteers that protect the city’s beaches and coastal environment.

“For 100 years, Miami Beach lifeguards have kept our residents and millions of visitors safe, in every kind of weather,” said Steven Meiner, maire de Miami Beach. “They are athletes, first responders and goodwill ambassadors, and this exhibit also honors the volunteers who protect our beaches and ocean. I invite everyone to visit Lummus Park to celebrate our Ocean Heroes.”

Organized and curated by the Office of the Mayor and Commission in collaboration with Miami Beach Ocean Rescue and the Environment & Sustainability Department, the exhibit features a series of weatherproof panels at Galeria Ocean Drive, 1101 Ocean Drive. The year-round outdoor gallery is located in Lummus Park along iconic Ocean Drive between 11 and 12 streets. The new exhibit combines historic photographs, artifacts, large-scale graphics, educational displays and interactive installations to tell the story of Miami Beach's relationship with the ocean — from a century of lifesaving to today's efforts to preserve the natural environment.

The lifesaving service was created by the then Miami Beach City Council on July 9, 1926 — a decade after the city’s incorporation. “Miami Beach Ocean Heroes: From Ocean Rescue to Coastal Guardians” traces the evolution of Miami Beach Ocean Rescue, honoring generations of lifeguards who have protected millions of beachgoers as told by historic photographs, equipment and stories that highlight the department's remarkable history, its lifesaving mission and the dedicated professionals who continue that legacy today.

Beyond ocean safety, the exhibit recognizes 13 local environmental organizations and their volunteers, whose work includes beach cleanups, plastic pollution reduction, marine conservation, wildlife protection and environmental education. Together, these organizations demonstrate how individual actions and community involvement contribute to healthier beaches and a cleaner ocean.

Among the highlights of the exhibit is an interactive art installation created by Plastic Fisherman from thousands of recovered and recycled plastic caps and small pieces. The colorful display transforms discarded plastic into an oversized, interactive photo frame, combining environmental awareness, creativity and community participation.

Through the Become an Ocean Hero campaign, visitors are invited to step into a frame and make a heart with their hands — a symbolic expression of their commitment to reduce single-use plastics and protect our beaches and ocean.

Galería serves as a year-round exhibit space with rotating displays that celebrate Miami Beach’s rich history and cultural heritage. The latest exhibit runs from Nov.  5 through February 2027. For more information, visit www.miamibeachfl.gov/galeria.
