The Office of Community Services serves as an information and advocacy conduit for our community’s elder residents.

Our referral process connects elder residents with a variety of community-based services including:

FREE Legal Assistance for Tenant Housing Defense

Free Legal Advice

This is your opportunity to get free legal advice on housing matters! Every Thursday Miami Beach residents can make in-person appointments to speak with a legal professional for housing issues.

Miami-Dade County Services Available for Elder Residents

Independent Living Supports

The Disability Services and Independent Living (DSAIL) program aids Miami-Dade residents with disabilities ages 18 to 59. The program aims to assist persons with disabilities in maintaining and/or acquiring independence and autonomy at a personal level. The assistance and support provided can enhance adaptive living skills and help individuals remain at home and in the community. Learn More...

Transportation (Including Golden Passport)

Senior citizens and Social Security beneficiaries can ride Transit free with a Golden Passport EASY Card. Miami Beach residents can submit their application in person at the Miami Beach Customer Service Center.

The Emergency & Evacuation Assistance Program (EEAP) provides free evacuation assistance to eligible residents living in Miami-Dade County who need specialized transportation and/or sheltering or who would like to receive a wellness call after a disaster.

State of Florida Services Available for Elder Residents

SHINE Program

The Alliance for Aging’s SHINE Program (Serving Health Insurance Needs for the Elderly), a free program offered by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the Local Area Agency on Aging. Specially trained volunteers can assist elders with their Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance questions by providing one-on-one counseling and information.

SHINE Services are free, unbiased, and confidential.
