Captain Eric Garcia began his law enforcement career in 1997 as a Police Officer for the City of Hallandale Beach. Captain Garcia joined the Miami Beach Police Department in the year 2000. He served as a Road Patrol and Bicycle Unit Officer before being promoted to Sergeant in 2007. As a Sergeant he served in the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Support Services Division, and in the Chief’s Office as part of the Professional Standards Unit. Captain Garcia was promoted to Lieutenant in 2015 and returned to the Patrol Division to serve as Shift Commander on the Afternoon Shift. His most recent assignment was as Commander of the Property and Evidence Unit which includes Fleet, Body-Worn Cameras, Quartermaster, Facilities Management, and Physical Evidence.

Captain Garcia has received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career including twice receiving the FOP Member of the Year Award. Captain Garcia is a proud graduate of Belen Jesuit Prep School and Florida International University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Finance. He has also completed the International Association of Chief’s of Police Leadership in Police Organizations Program. Captain Garcia is also an elected Trustee of the City Pension Fund for Firefighters and Police Officers in the City of Miami Beach, where he is serving his second term and currently holds the position of Secretary.
