City of Miami Beach Allows Movie Theaters and Other Entertainment Venues to Open

The City of Miami Beach has amended its Emergency Measures, effective Friday, September 18, 2020 at 12:01 p.m., to be in compliance with Miami-Dade County’s Emergency Order (EO) 28-20, as amended. Movie theaters, concert houses, auditoriums, playhouses, bowling alleys, arcades, and indoor amusement facilities and attractions may operate, provided the establishment:

  1. Complies with the COVID-19 safety plan for such establishment previously approved by Miami-Dade County and the City
  2. Complies with the current version of the New Normal Guidebook, as such may be amended from time to time
  3. If such establishments allow eating or drinking on premises, provides specific and clearly marked locations where eating and drinking will be allowed.

COVID-19 safety plans for such establishments must be submitted by e-mail to hernancardeno@miamibeachfl.gov or by mail to Hernan Cardeno, Code Compliance Department, 1680 Meridian Avenue, Suite 602, FL 33139.

Bars, pubs, night clubs, cocktail lounges, cabarets, adult entertainment venues, hookah lounges, or breweries, remain closed, provided, however that such venues, if licensed as a public food service establishment pursuant to Chapter 509, Florida Statutes, may only sell food and alcoholic beverages for onsite consumption in conformance with the rules for restaurants set forth in the Handbook.

Any violation of the emergency measures shall subject the individual, operator, business entity, or organization to arrest and criminal prosecution pursuant to Section 26-36 and Section 1-14 of the City Code. Furthermore, any violation of the provisions of this Order may subject an operator, business entity, or organization to the closure of the establishment for a period of at least 24 hours, or through the duration of the State of Emergency.
