Statement from City Manager Jimmy L. Morales

(Miami Beach, FL) Oct 7, 2020 -

In the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes (or if you prefer to quote the musical group The Byrds), a wise leader observes that “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” It has been my pleasure for these past 7 ½ years to have served as the City Manager of the city where I was born and raised, and to which I owe so much. I am proud of the team we have built here, of the accomplishments over these past number of years, and even of how we have handled the adversity we have faced, whether they be hurricanes or pandemics – most notably the response and tremendous hard work that has been put into the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I have always said that this was the hardest job I ever had and the best one. But now comes a point in my life, a season, where I want to explore the next chapter, the next adventure, of my life. I have been blessed with nearly 8 years in this City when all is said and done. I have notified the Mayor and Commission that my last day with the City will be February 1st of next year. Where life takes me after that and what challenges I will tackle are still not certain, but I am excited to explore the opportunities. I can assure you that for the next four months, I will continue to work hard on your behalf, and work with the Mayor and Commission to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. May God bless this great City and may the good Lord bless each of you and your families.
