‘Unwrap Your Journey’ Brings Hope for Holidays

(Miami Beach, FL) Dec 7, 2022 -

The City of Miami Beach is bringing back the “Unwrap Your Journey” program this holiday season to provide a welcoming environment for the city’s homeless population. The initiative provides the homeless with holiday gift bags that contain T-shirts, socks, sanitary items, and homeless outreach brochures with information on city services and programs.

“While this is only the second year of this program, it is already becoming a holiday tradition,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak said. “We not only want to provide gift bags, we also want to give our homeless residents access to our services, which include hot meals, showers and a place to sleep.”

Each gift bag will include a handwritten, inspirational card from the All-Stars Youth Program. The holiday Unwrap Your Journey program runs from Dec. 9 to Jan. 2.

Homeless people will be encouraged to visit the lobby of the Housing & Community Services office at 771 17 St. where they will find a holiday tree donated by Miami Christmas Lights and other festive decorations. They will be invited to choose an ornament from the tree along with a holiday gift bag based on their specific needs. Team members will use the opportunity to let the homeless person know about available services and how they can begin their journey to ending homelessness.

The Housing & Community Services office is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office closes from noon to 1 p.m.
