Please fill out the form below and check the "I Agree with this letter to oppose Senate Bill 1346, the "Resiliency and Safe Structures Act,", sign and submit.

I am writing to express my concern about Senate Bill 1346, the "Resiliency and Safe Structures Act," as a resident of Miami Beach. This bill proposes to allow the demolition of nonconforming structures in coastal high-hazard areas which fail to meet FEMA standards for new construction, structures determined to be unsafe by a local building official, and structures ordered to be demolished by a local government with proper jurisdiction.

While I understand the importance of ensuring public safety, I believe this bill is too broad and could negatively affect our community. As you know, Miami Beach is already facing the effects of climate change and rising sea levels. Allowing for the demolition of structures without considering the potential impact on our environment and community is a dangerous precedent to set.

Furthermore, the provision in the bill that prohibits a local government from imposing certain limitations or conditions of approval for a replacement structure to be built on the property where a structure was demolished is troubling. This provision could lead to unchecked development and could result in structures that are not resilient to future climate challenges.

I urge you to consider the potential consequences of this bill on our community and the environment. While safety should always be a top priority, we must also ensure that any actions we take do not exacerbate the challenges we already face.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
