Citizen police academy

The Miami Beach Police Department is proud to offer a very popular and free program, the Citizen Police Academy.  If you are interested in learning more about law enforcement this may be the perfect opportunity!

The course is a 12 week program that covers a variety of topics, including:

1. Community and Police Relations
2. Public Safety Communications Unit
3. Background Process
4. Specialized Units - K-9 Unit and Marine Patrol
5. Neighborhood Resource Office
6. Officer Memorial
7. Identity Theft and other crimes
8. Crime Scene Investigations
9. Cultural and Diversity Training
10. De-escalation Training
11. Use of Weapons/Firearms and Simulator Training
12. Officer Survival – High-Risk Encounters

Classes are held on Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Miami Beach Police Department, 1100 Washington Avenue. A light dinner is served at 5:45 p.m.  The materials used in the course, training facilities and food are complimentary. The Academy includes hands-on training presented in a low-stress atmosphere. Although graduates are not trained for police duty, they come away with an insider’s view of what it is like to be a police officer in Miami Beach.

Participants are introduced to various aspects of police work, aimed at creating awareness, understanding, and building strong police-community relations.
