—With a series of events that celebrate freedom, culture and community —
Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach will honor the 160th Juneteenth Independence Day by hosting its fifth annual Juneteenth Celebration — commemorating June 19, 1865, the date recognized as the end of slavery in the United States.
In partnership with the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District, the city will host “Juneteenth — A Day of Freedom.” This event kicks off on Thursday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Euclid Oval (700 Lincoln Road) with a dance performance by Miami’z Finest and a showcase from Florida Memorial University’s The ROAR Drumline. Join the performers’ procession to 1100 Lincoln Road and at 6 p.m. experience “Journey of Divine Souls,” a dance performance by the Peter London Global Dance Company.
The program celebrates the rich, spiritual and secular diversity found in the traditional expressions of dance and music from Africa to the New World, and it's phenomenal ability to adapt to the pressures of near insurmountable challenges and annihilation of its cultural heritage and significance — driving its core ability to survive and thrive through the power of its unique intelligence of improvisation and innovation.
