Miami Beach, FL – Join the City of Miami Beach on Friday, July 24 at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new Marine Patrol Facility at Maurice Gibb Memorial Park (18 Street and Purdy Avenue).
“This new Marine Patrol Facility is a major investment in the safety and protection of our waterways and neighborhoods,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “With an enhanced public safety focus on our bays and canals, this facility will ensure our police and fire marine units have the space, technology and coordination they need to respond quickly and effectively.”
An existing 2,500-square-foot building used by the Police Department Marine Patrol Unit will be torn down to make way for the new, 10,924-square-foot structure. The $13 million project is being partially funded by the 2018 General Obligation Bond that was overwhelmingly approved by Miami Beach voters. The work will be performed by Lunacon Construction Group.
When completed in the summer of 2027, the three-story structure will house marine-based units for both the Miami Beach Police Department and the Miami Beach Fire Department. The ground floor of the facility will feature a visitor lobby, public restrooms, park office, covered boat storage and separate storage areas for marine equipment used by police and fire units.
The second level will serve as headquarters for the Miami Beach Police Department Marine Patrol Unit and feature a shared gym to promote wellness and readiness among the city’s first responders. The third floor will be used by the Miami Beach Fire Department Marine Patrol Unit.
Parking for the groundbreaking event is available at Maurice Gibb Memorial Park, on street or in the Sunset Harbour Garage at 1900 Bay Road.
