Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach invites you to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a new outdoor exhibit, “Galería Ocean Drive — Miami Beach FREEDOM.” The grand opening will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 4 p.m. in Lummus Park at Galería Ocean Drive, located at 1101 Ocean Drive.
“This new exhibition, curated by our office, captures the essence of the American journey,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “It’s an honor to showcase these 34 panels on iconic Ocean Drive, reminding us all that the pursuit of liberty and achievement is a story we are still writing every day in this great city.”
The exhibit features weatherproof panels highlighting American achievements — from music legends like Bruce Springsteen and Madonna to American champions like Muhammad Ali and Simone Biles. The panels showcase a strong Miami Beach connection — the origin of the barcode concept on the sands of Miami Beach, historic appearances by Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley at the Fontainebleau and Gloria Estefan’s lasting cultural influence. It includes images from World War II that highlight the city’s pivotal role as a training center in addition to global U.S. achievements like the Apollo 11 moon landing and influential American brands such as Apple and Google that have shaped everyday life.
Curated by the Office of Mayor Meiner and Commission, the exhibit takes visitors on a journey through the last 250 years. The free installation will also feature “Freedom Square” in a central area that includes highlights from past Hyundai Air & Sea Shows.
Presented in partnership with the Hyundai Air & Sea Show and supported by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, the exhibition will include interactive installations and the city’s signature Art Deco swing — with a patriotic twist for the America 250 celebration.
Galería serves as a year-round exhibit space with rotating displays that celebrate Miami Beach’s rich history and cultural heritage. The America 250 exhibit will run through July 15 along iconic Ocean Drive between 11 and 12 streets. For more information, please visit www.miamibeachfl.gov/galeria.
