— This year’s ceremony will highlight Venezuela on July 23 —
Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach will hold its eighth annual Simón Bolívar y Las Americas Day on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 4 p.m. in Collins Park. The ceremony will take place in front of Bolívar’s Miami Beach monument at 21 Street and Collins Avenue.
“Simón Bolívar’s vision was rooted in the belief that ‘a nation that loves its freedom will, in the end, be free’, said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “It is fitting that this year’s ceremony will honor Venezuela. Our city stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan community and draws inspiration from their steadfast spirit as they navigate this difficult period of mourning and rebuilding.”
The festivities will include an invocation and wreath-laying ceremony from the Office of the Mayor and Commission. Every year, the Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee highlights a country Bolívar helped become independent. The ceremony will be followed by cafecito.
“A community who loves freedom, will ultimately be free,” shared Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee Chair Carmen Datorre.
“El Libertador” as Bolívar is known in Spanish (The Liberator), played a central role in the South American independence movement. Born on July 24,1783 in Caracas, Venezuela, his efforts led six present-day countries to independence from the Spanish Empire: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. Today, Bolívar’s accomplishments are celebrated throughout Latin America.
