–Miami Beach official appointed to the Development, Code Compliance, and Redevelopment Committee–
Miami Beach, FL – The Florida League of Cities, the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments, announced that Miami Beach Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez was recently appointed to serve on the Florida League of Cities 2026-2027 Development, Code Compliance, and Redevelopment Committee — one of the League’s five Legislative Policy Committees.
Legislative Policy Committee chairs, vice chairs, and members were appointed by Florida League of Cities President Mark Franks, Mayor of Shalimar.
As a Legislative Policy Committee member, Fernandez will help develop the League’s Legislative Platform, which details priority issues that are most likely to affect daily municipal governance and local decision-making during the upcoming legislative session, as well as help League staff understand the real-world implications of proposed legislation. Committee members are also asked to serve as advocates for local decision-making throughout the legislative process.
“At a time when cities across Florida continue to face efforts that erode local decision making, the work of the Florida League of Cities and its Development, Code Compliance, and Redevelopment Committee has never been more important,” said Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez. “I am honored to serve alongside municipal leaders from across our state to advocate for our residents, preserve the ability of communities to govern themselves, and ensure that Florida’s cities have a strong voice in Tallahassee.”
Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez was first elected to the Miami Beach City Commission in 2021 and re-elected in 2025 with the highest percentage ever achieved by a Miami Beach City Commissioner. He chairs the City Commission’s Public Safety & Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee, serves as Vice Chair of the Land Use & Sustainability Committee, and brings more than two decades of government and legislative experience to public service. Fernandez has been a strong advocate for protecting local decision making and preserving Miami Beach’s unique character in the face of state preemptions.
