— The 10-year update was approved by Florida’s Acquisition and Restoration Council —
Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach has secured unanimous approval from Florida state officials on a 10-year update to the city’s beachfront management plan that outlines management activities and planned projects over the next decade.
“Miami Beach is grateful to the State of Florida and the Acquisition and Restoration Council for approving this important 10-year plan,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “This unanimous approval empowers us to take bold, long-term action to defend our coastline and preserve our world-class beaches for generations to come.”
The council is comprised of four state agency representatives, four appointees of the governor, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission appointee and a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Appointee.
With a conservatively estimated budget of $541 million over the next 10 years, the 2026 Beachfront Management Plan strengthens natural resource protection, dune management and erosion control while improving public access and ADA accommodations and consolidating a clear 10-year management framework to keep beaches both resilient and welcoming.
The plan includes details with respect to ocean rescue services, maintenance of the beach and assets, local concession operation rules and regulations, special event permit requirements, dune management strategy and other key beach management activities.
According to the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, in 2024, the beaches attracted approximately 10.4 million domestic, international, and Florida overnight visitors to Miami Beach who spent $10.43 billion on Miami Beach and $20.46 billion within the region. Additionally, the beaches and dunes are the first line of defense in protecting over $62.4 billion in taxable property value in Miami Beach against storm surge and sea level rise.
