— The City of Miami Beach is inviting the public to help shape future parking options through its new Parking Reclaim Program —
Miami Beach, FL – Miami Beach residents, businesses and visitors now have a chance to play a direct role in improving one of the city’s everyday challenges: parking. As the city looks for creative ways to make getting around easier, officials are inviting the public to help spot locations that could become future parking spaces.
“Reclaiming underutilized street space for parking is a commonsense way to make getting around Miami Beach easier for residents while also supporting our local businesses,” explained Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez, who sponsored legislation to initiate the Parking Reclaim Program.
To participate, simply download the city’s app Miami Beach Gov from the IOS or Android stores and once registered, select “Report a Concern” then “Parking Reclaim Program” and upload a photo of the location that you think would make a good spot for parking. Be sure to include the address if the app’s recommended location doesn’t match where you’re uploading.
“The new Parking Reclaim feature on the Miami Beach Gov app was beta tested by resident Valerie Navarrete with resident convenience in mind,” added Commissioner Fernandez. “We hope more residents will help us identify locations where a simple change in striping or signage may be all that’s needed to safely create new parking opportunities.”
Each proposed location will be carefully reviewed based on safety, traffic operations, engineering best practices, Vision Zero principles and overall community benefit.
“Parking impacts daily quality of life for our residents, businesses and visitors,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “This new resident-driven initiative gives our community a direct voice in helping us identify spaces that may be safely converted into additional parking opportunities. Some of the most inspired ideas come from those closest to home, and we encourage residents to help us spot locations where small changes could make a meaningful difference.”
