Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach is partnering with the Sabrina Cohen Foundation to build a new ADA-accessible paver path that is expected to open in early 2027. The “Pathway of Inclusion” will allow disabled individuals, veterans, children with special needs and seniors to better experience a day at the beach in Beach View Park, 5301 Collins Ave.

“Sabrina Cohen is a trailblazer transforming daily life for people with disabilities, and this pathway will give everyone the chance to experience the joy and freedom of our ocean,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner.

Since 2016, the Sabrina Cohen Foundation has been providing monthly pop-up adaptive beach days to offer full-service access to the ocean for people with various disabilities with the help of trained staff, volunteers, access decks, beach wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment.

“This program goes way beyond getting people into the ocean,” explained Sabrina Cohen, who uses a wheelchair and founded the Sabrina Cohen Foundation. “It’s about bringing people together, so they feel empowered. By building a permanent, adaptive space, we look forward to welcoming people of all ages and abilities to enjoy our beautiful beach—not just once a month, but every day.”

All funds raised from the "Pathway of Inclusion" brick campaign will support an expansion of the adaptive park, including what is planned to be the nation's first-of-its-kind Adaptive Recreation Center currently in the planning stages.

The 1.25-acre barrier-free park and beach site will offer a naming opportunity in addition to the commemorative brick program. Two sizes of bricks can be personalized with the donor’s name, family name or name of someone they’d like to honor in their business or personal lives. A 4-inch by 8-inch brick costs $500. An 8-inch by 8-inch brick costs $1,000 or $1,055 with a logo.

“For people with disabilities, recreation and exercise are critical for their health and well-being, but are often difficult to access,” added Cohen. “Brick by brick, with the help of the community, we can make the dream of a more inclusive Miami Beach a reality.”

Adaptive beach days are held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month from April through November at 6475 Collins Avenue. The next event will be held this Sunday, October 19.
