—World Cup fans can experience the popular chant on Friday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. —
Miami Beach, FL – Get ready for an unforgettable World Cup fan experience as the Norwegian Viking Row craze arrives in South Beach on Friday, July 10. Nordic fans will bring their viral, high-energy “ro” chant to iconic Ocean Drive, inviting locals and visitors alike to join the fun and become part of the crew.
“Global passion is meeting the electric energy of our shores,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “Miami Beach is the ultimate destination for World Cup fans, and we’re inviting the whole world to grab an oar and row with us!”
The first of two demonstrations of the now iconic faux rowing maneuver will take place at 2 p.m. on Ocean Drive and 5 Street. Norwegian fans will provide a second demonstration at 7 p.m.
“Ocean Drive is about to come alive as we welcome the incredible Norwegian fans to Miami Beach,” shared Miami Beach Commissioner Monica Matteo-Salinas. “We can’t wait to celebrate together with great energy, unforgettable moments and the excitement that only the World Cup can bring. Here’s to making memories, sharing our city’s hospitality and enjoying an amazing celebration on Ocean Drive!”
Attending media should be set up by 1:30 p.m. Brief remarks by the Miami Beach Mayor and City Commissioners will take place right before the 2 p.m. row.
The city will also host a watch party on Friday in Lummus Park on Ocean Drive and 14 Street for the quarterfinal match between Belgium and Spain at 3 p.m.
“Miami Beach has been one of the most vibrant and exciting places on the planet during the World Cup,” added Miami Beach Commissioner Joseph Magazine. “As great as the soccer has been, it’s the fans-sharing their cultures, traditions, and unforgettable celebrations, that have stolen the show. We can’t wait to welcome the Norwegian fans to Ocean Drive and join them in their Viking Row.”
The ro is the brainchild of several members of Oljeberget Supporterklubb, Norway’s official supporters’ club. No instructions or equipment are needed — just sit down, grasp an imaginary oar and row along with the rhythm.
“The Norwegian Honorary Consulate is proud to be part of this exciting weekend in Miami Beach as Norway takes on England in the World Cup,” expressed Norwegian Honorary Consul Cathrine Prestroenning. “This summer, our Viking spirit has swept across Norway as we proudly rally behind our national team. We are proud to be Norwegian in Miami and invite all Norwegian fans, friends and supporters to join the celebration on Ocean Drive. Let’s fill Miami Beach with Norwegian colors, great energy and the unforgettable chant.”
