Resilient Florida Grant Dune Restoration
Project Overview:
The city's dune and beach system is one of our most valuable natural resources, providing habitat for several different coastal species and storm protection for the upland communities. The city has received a $1.3 million grant from the state of Florida for dune restoration and is now applying for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection permits.Â
The dune restoration project involves removing invasive species, selective sand filling, and replanting native plant species. The dunes serve an important role in protecting from wind and storm surges and provide habitats for native animals and supports the natural ecology.Â
