Project Overview:

Lincoln Road at Drexel Avenue Redevelopment Improvements began in July 2025.

The City of Miami Beach is transforming Drexel Avenue between 16 Street and Lincoln Lane North.

As part of the Lincoln Road Phase II District Improvements, this project will transform a portion of Drexel Avenue from Lincoln Lane South to Lincoln Lane North into a pedestrian-only corridor supporting a safer, more walkable environment for residents, businesses and visitors. Drexel Avenue between 16 Street and Lincoln Lane South is being improved but will remain open to traffic. The project is delivering key upgrades to paving, lighting, landscaping, and pedestrian access with a new outdoor performance space at Lincoln Road.

This work supports the City’s long-term vision to enhance walkability, cultural programming, and public spaces in the Lincoln Road District.

While construction is underway, restaurants and retail on Lincoln Road remain open for business to all locals and visitors! Please pardon our dust and adhere to posted pedestrian paths around the work zones. The surface parking lot between Meridian and Jefferson Avenues is also available for use; please access this lot from 17 Street via Jefferson Avenue.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

What is the purpose of this project?

The Lincoln Road District Improvements at Drexel Avenue are designed to support the City of Miami Beach’s long-term vision of creating safer, more walkable, and more vibrant public spaces. For Lincoln Road, the goal is to create an integrated, world-class district. By transforming Drexel Avenue into a pedestrian-only corridor, the project will support cultural programming and create a more welcoming environment for both residents, visitors and businesses. These improvements aim to strengthen the area's connection to Lincoln Road’s shops, restaurants, and arts venues, while supporting pedestrian safety and improving the overall public experience. The proposed pedestrianization also creates a strategic connection to the New World Symphony and Soundscape Park, host of many cultural events and programming.

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

Where is this project taking place?

When will construction begin and how long will it last?

How will the work be completed?

The project will be completed in three phases, designed to maintain pedestrian access throughout:

During Phase 1: The contractor will overtake Drexel Avenue from just south of Lincoln Lane North to Lincoln Lane South in order to begin underground drainage and utility improvements
During Phase 2: The contractor will maintain most of the work zone and begin above-ground improvements, including sidewalk reconstruction, lighting installation, and landscaping
During Phase 3: The contractor will begin final paving operations and above-ground finishes, with localized sidewalk closures

What major activities are included in the project?

Key components of the construction include:

Left Column

New drainage systems
Installation of a public amphitheater with stepped seating
New sidewalks, public seating, lighting landscaping, and irrigation from 16th Street to Lincoln Lane North

Right Column

Construction of a new electrical room and underground utility connections
Installation of a new roundabout at Lincoln Lane South
New street lighting, signalization, and pavement throughout the corridor

These improvements will enhance the street’s function and atmosphere for residents, businesses, and visitors.

ACCESS & IMPACTS

Will businesses remain open during construction?

What about deliveries and parking?

Deliveries will remain accessible on a case-by-case basis, as the contractor will remove roadway access to Lincoln Road starting in early June. The city will work directly with businesses to minimize disruption to loading operations during construction. On-street parking along Drexel Avenue from Lincoln Lane South to just South of Lincoln Lane North will be permanently removed as Drexel Avenue is converted into a pedestrian-only corridor. Businesses and visitors should anticipate changes to parking availability and plan accordingly.

FEATURE SPOTLIGHT: AMPHITHEATER

Amphitheater Information

The project includes a small amphitheater with integrated seating steps, along with an electrical room to support community events and cultural programming. Located at the intersection of Lincoln Road and Drexel Avenue, this new gathering space is designed to enhance connectivity to nearby cultural venues—such as the New World Symphony—and help activate the corridor through public use and event opportunities.
