Before anything else, Joe Magazine is a father. His daughter, Capri, attends public school in Miami Beach, and being her dad shapes the way he sees his city, not only as it is today, but as the place where she and the next generation will grow up.

Secondly, he is a son to Joe Sr. and Donna. Raised in Pennsylvania, Joe grew up with a strong sense of family and the value of hard work, principles that have stayed with him throughout his life and career.

Joe graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Finance and Business Law before beginning his career in New York at Merrill Lynch in Investment Banking and Capital Markets. He later served as Vice President at Deutsche Bank in Municipal Capital Markets, working with hundreds of cities and municipalities across the country. After moving to Miami Beach, he continued his career as Senior Vice President at Loop Capital. Today, Joe is Senior Partner and Head of Business Development at Fortuna Investment, a venture capital and advisory firm.

After years of working with cities across the country, Joe turned his attention to the city he calls home. To him, Miami Beach is paradise, and his reason for entering public service was simple: help make an extraordinary city even better.

As Miami Beach Commissioner and Chair of the Finance Committee, Joe has brought his financial background to City Hall with a focus on fiscal responsibility and a more efficient government. His work has included identifying millions of dollars in savings while protecting resident services, lowering millage rates, eliminating unnecessary spending, supporting academic opportunities for local youth and helping transform vacant areas into vibrant, walkable neighborhoods.

But Joe believes good government should also be felt in everyday life. His priorities include accelerating permitting, addressing sargassum, supporting local communities and creating more opportunities for residents to come together. He is also working to shift the focus of March in Miami Beach toward health, wellness, fitness and longevity through large-scale, inclusive sporting and fitness events.

That commitment to wellness is personal, too. Fitness has always been part of Joe's lifestyle, reflecting his belief that taking care of yourself and your community go hand in hand.

And despite the titles, Joe believes public service starts with being accessible. You’ll often find him making his way around Miami Beach on his golf cart, where residents regularly stop him to say hello, ask a question or share an idea.

For Joe, that's exactly how it should be. Miami Beach is his home, and he wants the people who call it home to always know where to find him.
