International Coastal Cleanup Strengthens Global Bonds
Volunteers from Miami Beach and Fujisawa joined forces to remove hundreds of pounds of trash from their shorelines, emphasizing their shared commitment to protecting marine environments. On World Ocean Day, the Clean Miami Beach initiative and the Miami Beach Sister Cities Committee partnered with our longest-standing Sister City, Fujisawa, Japan, for a unique international beach cleanup at Nobu Hotel Miami Beach. In a powerful demonstration of global collaboration, volunteers in both cities cleaned their beaches simultaneously, united by a shared commitment to protecting the ocean that connects us.
More than 80 volunteers came together in Miami Beach, collecting over 150 pounds of trash, helping preserve our local shoreline while contributing to a worldwide effort to reduce marine pollution. Across the Pacific, participants in Fujisawa carried out their own cleanup, reinforcing the strong bond developed through over 60 years of friendship, community, and likeminded efforts between our two coastal cities.
The City of Miami Beach, and the Miami Beach Sister Cities Committee are grateful for every volunteer, partner, and organizer whose dedication made World Ocean Day an international success. Together, we demonstrated that local action can have a global impact, and that through international partnerships, we can continue building cleaner, healthier oceans for future generations.
