Miami Beach, FL – In recognition of his many philanthropic contributions to the community, the City of Miami Beach will honor businessman Norman Braman with a street naming on Monday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. outside Miami Beach City Hall (1700 Convention Center Drive). The event coincides with the start of this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, which Braman was instrumental in bringing to the city in 2002.

“Norman Braman’s impact on Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County is profound and endearing. His leadership has strengthened the cultural, civic, and moral foundation of our community – from safeguarding the memory of the Holocaust, to elevating Miami Beach onto the world stage through the arts, to championing excellence in healthcare and advancing good government,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez, who championed the street naming. “Few individuals have shaped our region with such a commitment to the public good. It is a privilege for our city to recognize his legacy with this street naming, a testament to a lifetime of service that continues to inspire us all.”

A self-made billionaire who owns a number of automobile dealerships in Florida, Braman also supported the effort to create the Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial. In 2022, his Irma and Norman Braman Art Foundation commissioned the Minna sculpture that sits in Pride Park. In addition, the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center is set to open in 2026.

“Mr. Braman is a self-made success story whose journey is the ultimate testament to the American Dream,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “His vision, particularly in bringing the global economic engine of Art Basel to our shores, hasn't just elevated our international standing—it has created opportunity and jobs for our community. Mr. Braman is a dedicated citizen who has made exceptional contributions for our quality of life."

Norman Braman Way will be located on 17 Street between Washington Avenue and Alton Road.

“I am honored by this recognition and extend my sincere gratitude to the mayor and members of the commission,” said Braman. “Miami Beach is a community built on service, commitment and vision. It has been a privilege to contribute to its progress, and I remain deeply grateful for this distinction.”
