“Doors to Freedom” Installation to be Unveiled during Art Week Miami Beach —In partnership with the Human Rights Foundation, Cuban Freedom March and the City of Miami Beach —
Miami Beach, FL – The Human Rights Foundation and Cuban Freedom March, in collaboration with the City of Miami Beach, proudly announce the unveiling of “Doors to Freedom,” a powerful public art installation debuting Monday, December 1 at 5 p.m. in Mid Beach Park (4601 Collins Avenue).
“Art Week is a global celebration of creativity, innovation and open cultural exchange,” shared Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez, who sponsored city funding for this project. “Yet around the world, artists living under authoritarian governments face censorship, imprisonment, torture and exile for daring to imagine a freer society. “Doors to Freedom” confronts this reality head-on.”
The display showcases drawings, etchings, performance art documentation and sculptures created by artists who have been harassed, jailed or driven from their homelands. Their work stands as living evidence — imagery authoritarian regimes have desperately tried to suppress or erase.
"The Doors to Freedom installation reminds us that the right to express oneself—the very foundation of this incredible artistic surge—is a freedom for which many still fight," said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner.
The artwork will be on display to the public on December 2–7, 2025, during this year’s Art Week Miami Beach.
“This installation strips away the idea that art is only ever a polite conversation,” added Human Rights Foundation Chief Advocacy Officer Roberto Gonzalez. “For these artists, their work is an alarm bell against tyranny, and their sacrifice demands our attention.”
“Art is freedom, and tyrants fear it because it exposes truth,” said Executive Director of Cuban Freedom March Alian Collazo. “These artists were silenced at home, but here we give them the voice their regimes tried to erase. ‘Doors to Freedom’ shows that when free people amplify the oppressed, art becomes resistance and freedom finds a way.”
