— The free community event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5 —
Firefighters from the Miami Beach Fire Department will take on fellow first responders from the Miami Beach Police Department in the city’s first “Battle of the Badges” to kick off Fire Prevention Week on Sunday, Oct. 5. The free event will be hosted by the Gift of Life Marrow Registry from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fire Station 2 (2300 Pine Tree Drive).
The family-friendly “Battle of the Badges” pits cops vs. firefighters in a friendly burger competition, with kosher options available. Special guest Todd English, internationally renowned chef and restaurateur, will join the judges’ panel to help crown the winner. Meanwhile, the Gift of Life Marrow Registry will also host a swabbing tent, allowing attendees to join the marrow registry with a quick cheek swab. A marrow donor will be introduced to the recipient of their donation at the event as a meaningful reminder of the program’s life-saving potential.
Attendees can cheer for their favorite burger team while also taking in live K-9 and SWAT demonstrations by the Miami Beach Police Department. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to try on firefighter bunker gear and meet the department’s fire dogs — Salsa and Deco.
Fire prevention personnel and members of the Community Emergency Response Team will also be on hand with giveaways and educational materials. Parking will be available at nearby Miami Beach Senior High School at 2231 Prairie Ave.
