Wellspring

An artist based in Miami, Florida, Lee Pivnik draws inspiration from living systems and other species to imagine a future based on mutualistic relationships rather than extractive economies. Working across disciplines, his practice is permeated by the idea of entanglement— the touching, changing, mutating relationships between species and their environments. His sculptures, drawings and installations create a visual language for ecological entanglement, referencing fungal networks, epiphytic plants and emergent animal architectures found in South Florida.

Pivnik graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in sculpture in 2018. He is the founder and codirector of the Institute of Queer Ecology (IQECO), an everevolving collaborative organism that has engaged over 150 artists in interdisciplinary programming grounded in the theoretical framework of Queer Ecology.

He has presented solo exhibitions with Dalé Zine (FL), Biosphere 2 (AZ), YoungArts (FL) and Hi-Lo Press (GA). Pivnik has been awarded Knight Arts Challenge Awards in 2019 and 2021, and a Creative Capital Award (2025).

Working as the Institute of Queer Ecology, Pivnik has presented projects with the Guggenheim Museum (New York, NY), the United Nations - ART 2030 (New York, NY), Museo de Arte Zapopan (Mexico), Centre Pompidou-Metz (France), Museum Schloss Moyland (Germany), and the Medellín Museum of Modern Art (Colombia), among others.
