Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach will hold a grand opening ceremony on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. to celebrate the city’s new Ocean Terrace Park, which includes a multilevel pedestrian promenade and water features. The park is located along Ocean Terrace between 73 and 75 streets, just off the beach in the city’s North Beach neighborhood.
"Another beautiful park is opened in Miami Beach, and this one is a true milestone for North Beach,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “Ocean Terrace Park is more than five acres of green space by the ocean — it’s a signal of the transformational investments that will fuel North Beach’s resurgence.”
The 5-acre park is one of several public and private enhancements planned for North Beach over the next few years that are intended to usher in a transformational economic resurgence. Ocean Terrace is located along the beachfront and has been the scene of television and movie productions for its similarity to Ocean Drive in South Beach.
Constructed under a development agreement between the City of Miami Beach and Ocean Terrace Holdings, the Ocean Terrace Park project is only a short walk from the Miami Beach Bandshell and will offer additional retail and food options beyond what is currently available along nearby Collins Avenue.
Designed by landscape architecture firm Raymond Jungles Inc. and constructed by Recreational Design & Construction, Inc. (RDC), the park includes three water features planted with aquatic species, custom benches and seating opportunities as well as lawn areas for passive recreation. The project also includes improved storm drainage, new landscaping and irrigation equipment, turtle-friendly lighting, a future open-air pavilion, security camera infrastructure and an upgraded portion of the Beachwalk.
“From the beginning, our vision for Ocean Terrace was to transform oceanfront asphalt into a lush, welcoming landscape filled with mature shade trees, green spaces, exceptional art and serene vignettes,” added Sandor Scher, principal at Ocean Terrace Holdings. “Ocean Terrace Park brings that vision to life as a world-class public amenity that will be enjoyed for generations. We are proud to see this important milestone realized in our partnership with the City of Miami Beach.”
With the opening of the $15 million park, Miami Beach residents and visitors can now enjoy an extended stretch of public space along the city’s northern beachfront from Altos Del Mar Park through Ocean Terrace Park down to UNIDAD Senior Center and Bandshell Park.
