Miami Beach Enhances Emergency Response Capabilities with High-Water Vehicles

Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach has expanded its emergency preparedness with the recent acquisition of two refurbished high-water vehicles, thanks to a grant awarded to the Miami Beach Fire Department. One vehicle will be assigned to the Miami Beach Police Department and the other to the Fire Department, ensuring both agencies are equipped to respond during flood emergencies.

“This critical new addition to our fleet is another powerful tool to keep Miami Beach safe,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “While we continue working to prevent flooding, we now have greater capabilities to respond quickly and protect our community when severe weather strikes."

These specialized military-grade vehicles will be deployed in situations where flooding poses a risk to residents and visitors, particularly in the event that evacuations are necessary. Designed to operate in high water, they provide first responders with the ability to safely reach and transport individuals from areas impacted by storm surge, heavy rainfall or king tides.

“Having these vehicles available means we can respond more effectively and keep our community safe when conditions become dangerous” said Miami Beach Fire Chief Digna Abello.

"High-water vehicles are a vital addition to our operational capabilities," said Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones. "In a city as geographically unique and flood-prone as Miami Beach, these vehicles allow our officers to maintain access to neighborhoods during severe weather events and support coordinated evacuation and rescue efforts."

Hurricane season runs through November and officials encourage all Miami Beach residents to remain prepared by reviewing their personal evacuation plans and staying informed through official communication channels.
