— The annual VACC Camp Beach Day returns to Miami Beach on Tuesday, March 24 —
Miami Beach, FL – Miami Beach Fire Department will partner with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, March 24, to host the 40th annual Dr. Moises Simpser Ventilation Assisted Children’s Center Camp (VACC Camp) Beach Day at the 1st Street Lifeguard Tower beginning at 10 a.m.
This meaningful event offers a memorable beach experience for children and families who depend on oxygen, tracheostomies and/or ventilators. Families from across the country come together to enjoy the ocean, participate in activities and connect with others in an inclusive setting.
Miami Beach firefighters will assist by constructing wheelchair-accessible pathways along the sand, ensuring families can safely access the beach. Specialized waterproof wheelchairs will be available to allow participants to enter the water comfortably, while handheld ventilators will be used by children who require respiratory support. Medical staff and volunteers from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital will remain on site throughout the event to support participants and address any medical needs.
“Events like VACC Camp Beach Day reflect the heart of what we do as firefighters,” said Miami Beach Fire Chief Digna Abello. “We’re honored to support these children and their families and to work alongside Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in creating a day filled with unforgettable memories.”
Founded in 1986 by Dr. Moises Simpser, VACC Camp was the first weeklong camp in the nation designed specifically for ventilation-assisted children and their families. Over the past four decades, the program has welcomed more than 250 families from the United States and abroad. The annual beach day continues to be a cherished highlight, giving families the opportunity to create lasting memories together.
