Miami Beach, FL – For the second straight year, the City of Miami Beach vehicle fleet maintenance garage has been named among the greenest in Florida and the seventh greenest in North America by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA).

“Miami Beach sets the national standard for how modern cities operate efficiently,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “High-performance city services and responsible environmental stewardship go hand in hand, and we are proving that.”

NAFA’s Green Garage Contest brings together the most progressive and environmentally committed fleets to showcase best practices for eco-friendly vehicle fleet maintenance garages — from solar rooftop solar panels to waste oil heating systems. Participating organizations share innovative and simple ways to green maintenance garages, according to program officials.

Miami Beach has also been named to NAFA’s 100 Best Fleets in Americas for three straight years. The next round of winners will be announced in spring of 2026.

“I’m so very proud of our Fleet Management Division, a team of dedicated professionals who work hard every day, not only to keep our fleet running but to do so in a way that is environmentally responsible,” added Commissioner Monica Matteo-Salinas. “This is an amazing achievement when you are being compared to 38,000 public fleets. That includes municipal fleets as well as state and county fleets.”

The city’s Facilities and Fleet Management Department is responsible for nearly 1,500 vehicles and other equipment.

Miami Beach recently completed an ambitious goal of converting half of the entire municipal fleet to a combination of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. The NAFA 100 Best Fleets program recognizes peak-performing fleet operations among the 38,000 public fleets in North America based on “12 criteria of excellence,” including accountability, collaboration and doing it right the first time.
