Miami Beach To Celebrate Benito Juárez Day

Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach and Consulate General of Mexico in Miami will honor Mexican revolutionary hero and former president Benito Juárez during a special ceremony on Thursday, March 19 at 4 p.m. in collaboration with the city’s Hispanic Affairs Committee.

The celebration will take place in Collins Park at 21 Street and Collins Avenue by the permanent, 2-foot bronze bust of Juarez, which was gifted to the city by Mexico’s government in 2024.

“The legacy of Benito Juárez allows us to reflect on the foundational principles of the rule of law and the pursuit of equal opportunity for all,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “Miami Beach is honored to join the Consulate General of Mexico at Collins Park to celebrate these enduring ideals.”

Juárez championed democracy and led Mexico ushered in vital reforms, including the establishment of secular education and the protection of religious freedoms.

“The presence of Benito Juárez in our country’s history marks the consolidation of Mexico as a democratic, independent, and sovereign Republic,” shared Consul General of Mexico in Miami Rutilio Escandón Cadenas. “His legacy reminds us that we are all equal under the law.”

The event will feature a wreath-laying ceremony and a special dance performance by the Mexican cultural organization, Ameyal, mariachi music by the Aventureros and a musical performance by Marimba Nica.
